Things to think about before get tattooed: Think first before you get tattooed – believe me, many customers don’t! Once you have selected a tattoo, collect together all images you think will help the artist create your design, from studio designs, the internet, tattoo magazines and other design sources. When you have chosen your design, it is important to find out if and when the artist can do it. Some shops are appointment only, some part appointment/walk-ins and some are walk-ins only. If it is an appointment studio, in most cases you will be required to leave a deposit. This is something non-returnable. If you miss or are late for your appointment, some studios will refund deposits if 24, 48 hours cancellation notice are given. It amazes me how some people are offended when asked for a deposit. They want the artist to commit time to them but are not prepared to do the same. If you are going to have names or dates tattooed, make sure you know the correct date or the correct spelling. You’d be amazed how many customers don’t know how to spell even their wife’s or kids’ names! Find out what payment methods your chosen studio accepts. Many artists run cash only businesses and won’t be too pleased when you try and pay with a credit card. If you look under age, take ID to the studio. Do not take a group of mates with you. They will distract you and the artist. It is also advisable to leave children at home. Kids get bored and a tattoo studio is not an ideal environment for children to be bored in. Turn off your mobile phone. Nothing is worse for a tattoo artist than for the customer to be fumbling around trying to answer to answer their phone. Plus, who wants to share a one way conversation. If prior to your appointment, you wish to change your design in anyway, call and let the artist know. Do not go and get tattooed if you are drunk, stoned, tripping or out of it in any way! If you are a smoker, only smoke in the studio if permitted. If you have a medical condition (e.g. diabetes, epilepsy, heart condition etc.) let the artist know before undergoing tattooing. Eat before getting tattooed. Try not to be nervous. If you fell faint let the artist know. Don’t suffer in silence. Think about the clothing you are going to wear to get tattooed. Whites And light colors aren’t too sensible. You may well get blood or ink on them. Also make sure you can expose the area you want to get tattooed without being embarrassed.
